I’m so thrilled to announce that I have been chosen as one of Brisbane’s International Student Ambassadors (BISA) for 2013. This is such an honor as the competition has increased tremendously since the inception of the BISA program five years ago by Brisbane Marketing’s Study Brisbane. I will be representing the United States and am among 33 fellow ambassadors from 29 countries. We were appointed by the Lord Mayor Graham Quirk today at the newly re-opened Brisbane City Hall. A representative from the University of Queensland (UQ) came to watch us be inducted and UQ makes up nearly half of our class.
Our role is to represent the 80,000 international students who call Brisbane their home while they pursue their academic endeavors and promote Brisbane to the world with a focus on our respective countries. We will volunteer at multicultural events, participate in media interviews, and assist with the hosting of official visiting delegations. Our first event is this Friday! The APT7 is hosting a reception in our honor as the current exhibition closes. I’ll be sure to share the details with you all in my next post.
Anna, who is in charge of the program, is fantastic and provided us with a great training session so we are informed and aware of our roles as Ambassadors! She’s been so great to us and the quality of the program is because of her dedication to making our experience unforgettable. Two Ambassadors in are class are returning for the second year which is a testament to the caliber of the BISA Program.
My fellow Ambassadors come from all over the world from Brazil to Bosnia. Everyone is so personable and I am looking forward to learning about their cultures while we explore Brisbane and the greater Queensland area together.
Part of our role as Ambassadors is to share our experiences through social media. You can stay up-to-date with me as an Ambassador by continuing to read my blog and/or on the following social media sites:
