Our journey as Brisbane International Student Ambassadors (BISA) has already started off with a huge celebration! The Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) invited us to celebrate our first week as BISAs with drinks and nibbles (appetizers) in the GOMA Cafe Bistro before checking out the exhibition and entertainment. The Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT)7 exhibition closes on Sunday April 14th and we were invited to stay up late and explore the exhibition after hours. Canyons provided the live music which was incredible as we freely wandered throughout the entire exhibition at our leisure.
What’s so neat about the APT7 is that it’s the Gallery of Modern Art’s flagship international contemporary art event and is the only major exhibition series in the world to focus solely on the contemporary art of Asia, the Pacific, and Australia. They are celebrating their twentieth anniversary that showcases new and recent works by 75 senior and emerging artists represeting 27 countries. Many of the artists come from Vietnam which piqued my interest even more as I read each artists’s biography.
Another stand out project was the Papua New Guinea masks and painted and carved structures that welcome you right after you enter the front doors. I hope that you’ll enjoy my photos from the exhibition! This event gave us an opportunity to explore one of the most forward exhibitions that comes out of Brisbane as well as get to know our fellow ambassadors better. A wonderful evening and I highly recommend that you visit the GOMA when you come to Brisbane!
