For the past week, I have been so fortunate to rock the Yelp Brisbane Photobooth and be part of the Albert Street Picnic presented by Brisbane City Council, U.R{BNE} Collective, and Albert St traders.

Day 1: Yelp Photobooth Ready

Day 1: Yelp Photobooth Ready

Everyone was invited to lay on the picnic rugs and lounge back on the astro-turf as Albert Street was transformed into a little fun picnic park! Each day has a slightly different set up with a skateboarding demonstration one day and a chef cook off another day but live music, giant games, and a relaxed atmosphere was provided every day. What kind of city is open to having a street blocked off to throw a big picnic? Brisbane! Despite the bustling streets with people getting to and from school and work, we provided a calm space for anyone to enjoy. Students, business folk, families, and couples all come down over the three days to spend a little bit of quality time together. The beautiful concept became a reality and I was lucky enough to experience it in the moment.

Day 2: Chef Cook Off

Day 2: Chef Cook Off

The Yelp Brisbane Photobooth ROCKED because we were able to tell everyone about the awesomeness of Yelp and get their photos with the giant letters. View the photobooth photos here! Some people wanted to spell words while others were happy with their first initial! Many people had not heard of Yelp so that gave me great pride to share what Yelp is about and give them some awesome swag.

Day 3: Best Photo Bomb

Day 3: Best Photo Bomb

We wanted people to write on the giant letters and share their ideas for a better Brisbane. The point of the picnic was to showcase ideas for the city center’s future and have input from the community. I love how the council actively engages the community. That’s always the first step, right!? Ideas are being shared from everywhere and I really hope that some of them are incorporated in the future of Brisbane.

I loved seeing other Yelpers stop by and my wonderful friends who came to picnic with me! My hope is that Brisbane will continue to incorporate more picnics because the positive impact was felt by the number of individuals who came out each day. I am so lucky to be an international student here in Brisbane!
