Who doesn’t love a road trip? Yelp Brisbane was so awesome and took some Yelp Elite members on a limousine charter bus to Surfer’s Paradise to try out Helm Bar. Surfer’s is less than an hour from Brisbane and the charter bus was very spacious with nice leather seats. Helm’s nautical theme gave a warm beach house feel. The look and feel were open, clean, and classy! The balcony had a mix of beautiful couches and high tables. I loved the space and we definitely had the best spot in the place.
As soon as we arrived, we were encouraged to peruse the extensive cocktail menu. They had many cocktails inspired by the South in The States. When the sun beating down my back, I opted for the tart Bramble. I loved the blackberry liquor and how the bottom of my jam jar was filled with berries. I also enjoyed the Basil Brush which was not especially sweet after having the Bramble. The best part was scooping out the strawberries at the end! My friends also ordered the Bee Sting, Voodoo Jam, Señorita Margarita, Old Fashioned, and Mojito. No one came away disappointed by their choice as all the cocktails are fantastic here.
For food, we tasted a few appetisers and many of the pizzas but the standout was the pesto lamb skewers! They were so tender and the right amount of pesto topped each one. The Peking duck and tandoori chicken pizzas were tasty. If you order the tandoori chicken, be sure to ask for extra yogurt sauce. Trust me. For dessert, they served chocolate cups with white chocolate mousse topped strawberries. It was nice and light way to end our tasting. While eating pizza, the Helm staff had placed a few letters under the pizza slices and those who found them won a bottle of wine or bourbon! Three out of five at our table were winners! We had such a blast and I enjoyed trying out a new place out of town. When I have family and friends come visit, I would definitely take them here after showing off the beautiful beaches in Surfer’s Paradise.
