About Terry

kangarooMy name is Terry Vo and I am originally from Fort Smith, AR. I studied International Relations with a minor in Asian Studies and Japanese Business Orientation at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas. I was fortunate enough to spend every summer studying abroad in Europe and Asia which opened my eyes to a world of possibilities. My junior year, I was chosen as one of the direct exchange participants to Kansai Gaidai Unviersity in Osaka, Japan. This experience truly changed my life and I received an internship at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo the following summer.

After graduating from the University of Arkansas, I was accepted into the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program and moved to Kyushu, the southern most island of Japan. For two years, I taught elementary and junior high students English in Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto Ken. This was a very rewarding experience where I was able to give back to my students by teaching English, the same way my Japanese professors aided me in my Japanese ability.

Upon completing my two year contract on the JET Program, I was hired by the Consulate-General of Japan in Nashville, TN as the JET Program and MEXT Coordinator. This opportunity was incredible as I was able to give opportunities to Americans to work, study, and conduct research in Japan as well as share Japanese culture with the five state area of Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

An opportunity of a lifetime came through Rotary International and District 6760 when they awarded me a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship in 2012! I am looking forward to pursuing my Masters in Governance and Public Policy as well as exploring all that Australia has to offer. I am a member of the final class of Rotary Ambassadorial Scholars but a new opportunity lies in the Global Grant for future scholars.

My passions in life include traveling, photography, cooking, reading, cultural exchange, afternoon tea, languages, music, yelping, eye glasses, and fashion. My current American television series list include Nashville, Modern Family, and Revenge. Life is too short to not explore the world!

Terry, Hi you may remember we meet at the State Parliament in Melbourne where you took a photo of me in the Speakers chair. I did send you a message with my e mail address as you hoped you could forward a copy of the picture. I do hope you can find time to forward the picture.

    Many thanks.
